The 2025 CMT Music Awards will not take place, as the show joins several others in a hiatus amid significant changes at parent company Paramount Global. The company is merging with Skydance Media, led by David Ellison. Paramount President Bruce Gillmer shared in a memo that events such as the MTV EMAs, MTV MIAWs, Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards in Mexico, and the CMT Music Awards will be paused this year as part of a strategy to reevaluate and optimize the company’s events slate.
Gillmer emphasized that live events remain a vital part of Paramount’s music offerings and expressed gratitude for the team’s hard work in bringing them to life. The decision follows the CMT Music Awards’ recent move to Texas, where it was held for two years at the Moody Center in Austin. The show, originally the “Music City News Awards” in the 1960s, had previously been hosted in Nashville. Last year’s event, hosted by Kelsea Ballerini, featured performances from Cody Johnson, Megan Moroney, Old Dominion, Jelly Roll, Keith Urban, Lainey Wilson, Sam Hunt, and more.
The future of the CMT Music Awards and other paused events remains uncertain, with no further details about upcoming shows yet to be released.
