The Dryes are bringing inspiration and empowerment with their next single, “Who Needs To Hear This.” The country music duo made up of Derek and Katelyn Drye has decided to unveil the track exclusively for readers of Country Now before its official release on Friday (March 3).
The husband and wife team of over ten years wrote the positive-leaning lyrics alongside Corey Crowder (“I’m Comin’ Over” “Famous”). Unveiling their passionate storytelling, the track shares an uplifting message to stay optimistic through hardships because “You ain’t always gonna feel this.”
“I don’t know who needs to hear this / Just hold on, the sun’s gonna rise again / You ain’t always gonna feel this / Like you feel it now, but you learn to live with it,” The Dryes harmonize throughout the stunning chorus over the mid-tempo duet. “Yeah, I know it gets hard when you’re lost in the dark / But there’s a light on up ahead / I don’t know who needs to hear this / But if you hear this / Don’t give up / Don’t give up yet.”
The Dryes – Who Needs To Hear This
“‘Who Needs To Hear This’ is about being at peace in feeling what you’re feeling, not rushing through it,” The Dryes tell Country Now of their newest offering. “Flipping on the light too soon can bottleneck the things that need to be felt, and sometimes knowing that you’re not alone is all we need to hear.”
“Our hope for this song is that when someone hears it in their dark times, they’ll be able to put one foot in front of the other,” they continue. “We believe music is healing, and we hope our fans and new listeners can feel that when they listen to this song!”
Katelyn takes the lead on the duet, showcasing her sunny voice and delicate rasp while Derek’s deeper vocals provide an unmatched blend that brings warmth and sincerity to the country-radio-ready track. With its optimistic message and soothing melody, “Who Needs To Hear This,” is bound to connect with listeners everywhere as the husband and wife duo touch on a subject that resonates with much of the world today.
The Dryes began their career in 2018, with the release of their incredibly emotional and impactful duet, “War,” which shed light on Derek’s personal story following his mother’s suicide when he was just eight months old. The debut track garnered over 6 million streams. Since its release, The Dryes have continued to share songs of healing and finding strength on the other side.
In 2022, The Dryes’ reached more listeners when they competed on Season 22’s The Voice. After blind auditioning with Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers’ “Islands In The Stream,” The Dryes found themselves competing on Team Blake, where they performed through the “Battle Rounds.”
“Who Needs To Hear This” follows the duo’s previous single, “House on Fire,” which calls for a wish to reignite the flames of a romance over a gentle-sway kind of melody. “Who Needs To Hear This” also comes after The Dryes’ successful headlining show at The Basement East in Nashville, Tenn., on Tuesday (Feb. 28), which marked their first show with the band in Music City since 2021.
