American Idol alum HunterGirl recently experienced a full-circle moment when she got to open for her friend and fellow country artist, Lainey Wilson.
On Thursday (Mar. 16), Wilson brought her headlining Country With A Flare Tour to Brooklyn Bowl Nashville for a two-night residency of sold-out shows. HunterGirl served as support for the second night along with Ben Chapman.
Following the packed-out concert, HunterGirl took to social media to share a photo of her and the “Heart Like A Truck” singer, who donned a bright blue pair of her iconic bell bottoms. In the caption, she penned a message that beamed with pride for seeing Wilson flourish in her career.
“I had so much fun getting to open for Lainey last night!! She is such a hard-working incredible artist and person. I remember when I met her when I first got to town and she was always so kind to everybody. I love seeing such a good person win. Thank you so much for letting me open for you! It was a night to remember. 💙”
Wilson was quite to add a response.
She wrote, “Love you girlfriend! Thank you for getting the party started last night 🔥🙌”
HunterGirl’s relationship with the Louisiana native began even before she earned the title of runner-up on Idol, back when they were both still working towards making a name for themselves in music city. In a previous interview with Music Mayhem, HunterGirl explained how she has looked up to the two-time CMA Award winner for some time, and was excited to cross paths with the woman behind the bell bottoms during the 2022 CMA Fest.
“She was singing everywhere and she was writing these songs,” HunterGirl told the outlet. “I still remember just how cool it was to watch that. She made me believe that I could write songs and play songs and play shows one day.”
The “Red Bird” singer even gained a bit more confidence in her talent after Wilson approached her with some kind words following a writer’s round in Nashville.
“I still remember her coming up to me and telling me that she liked one of my songs. It gave me that hope that I could maybe do this one day.”
These female country stars have both reached new heights in their careers. Since her time on the singing competition show, HunterGirl has kept the ball rolling by releasing several new songs such as “Red Bird,” “Hometown Out Of Me,” and her EP, “One Day.” At the end of 2022, she also wrapped up co-headlining tour with Idol winner, Noah Thompson.
This budding singer/songwriter has announced a slew of new dates for 2023. Her upcoming performances will provide support for artists including Josh Turner, Luke Bryan and Parmalee.
As for Lainey Wilson, she is currently on the road for her first-ever headlining trek that launched on January 4 in Spokane, Washington at the Knitting Factory. She will continue through March 31, when the tour will come to an end in Columbus, Ohio at The Bluestone.
The Country With A Flare Tour is presented by Stella Rosa Future is Female, and features support from rising artists Ben Chapman, Meg McRee and Leah Blevins on select dates.
On March 23, Wilson will join Luke Combs on his 2023 stadium tour. Combs’ massive trek kicks off at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX and will feature opening acts, Wilson, Riley Green, Flatland Cavalry and Brent Cobb on the North American tour dates. Special guests on the Australian and New Zealand dates include Cody Johnson and Lane Pittman.
Then this summer, she will conquer her first headlining arena show. This milestone event will take place on July 28 in Uncasville, CT at The Mohegan Sun Arena.
