Morgan Wallen returned to the top of the Billboard Country Airplay chart with his latest single at country radio, “Thought You Should Know.”
The song reached the No.1 spot on the just-released chart, according to country radio insider, Chris Owen.
At this time, it is unclear if “Thought You Should Know” will also claim the No.1 spot on the MediaBase Country Airplay chart as that chart is finalized on Sunday.
This marks Wallen’s 8th career No.1 at country radio, following his latest No.1, “You Proof.”
The tune, which made a major impact at Country radio upon its release with 64 first-week adds, was co-written by Wallen alongside Miranda Lambert and Nicolle Galyon.
“Thought You Should Know” comes in the form of a phone call to his mom, Lesli, and finds the country hitmaker giving her an update on his life and all the things that he has gone through recently.
“What’s going on mama? / Something’s just dawned on me / I ain’t been home in some months / Been chasing songs and women / Making some bad decisions / God knows I’m drinking too much / Yeah, I know you’ve been worrying ‘bout me / You’ve been losing sleep since ’93,” Wallen sings.

Throughout the lyrics, the East Tennessee native goes on to detail his new love interest and later question, “Can you believe I’m on the radio?”
Wallen brought the chart-topping hit to life with a music video, released last year on Thanksgiving day.
The music video features personal home footage of the Wallen family as well as clips of Wallen performing the heartfelt tune in a studio space as his mother, Lesli, watched on and sang along from behind the camera in a director’s chair.
Directed by Justin Clough, the “Thought You Should Know” music video concludes as Wallen’s mother walks over to him as the song comes to a close and the mother and son share a sweet moment as they hug and laugh together.
Wallen’s mom shared her reaction to the tune in May of 2022 while walking the Billboard Music Awards red carpet with the country hitmaker.
“The first time I heard [the song], I cried, and of course, I was just so humbled that he would do that for me,” Lesli previously told Entertainment Tonight. “The second time I heard it, I said ‘who’s the girl from Jefferson City?,’” she added, referencing a lyric from the song.
“Thought You Should Know” is one of 36 tracks on Wallen’s forthcoming new album, One Thing At A Time.
Arriving on March 3, One Thing At A Time will feature 36 new songs, including duets with Eric Church, HARDY and ERNEST. Wallen’s sister Ashlyne will also make an appearance on the project, singing harmonies on the song titled “Outlook.”
The 36-track project follows the December release of Wallen’s three-song One Thing At A Time – Sampler, which included “One Thing At A Time,” “Days That End In Why,” and “Tennessee Fan.”
One Thing At A Time will showcase Wallen’s wide range of musical influences as well as combine his love for country, rock and hip-hop.
“This record represents the last few years of my life, the highs and the lows,” Wallen previously shared in a statement. “It also brings together the musical influences that have shaped me as an artist – country, alternative and hip-hop.”
Following the release of the album, Wallen will return to the road for his first-ever stadium tour: One Night At A Time World Tour.
The tour officially kicks off on Wednesday, March 15 in Auckland, NZ at the Spark Arena. The U.S. leg of the tour begins on April 14 with back-to-back nights at Milwaukee’s American Family Field and will wrap up on October 7 at Tacoma Dome in Washington.

Marking one of the largest tours of 2023 so far and the biggest tour of Wallen’s career, the 63-show trek will visit 30 stadiums, plus arenas, amphitheaters and festivals to fans across four countries and two continents. The trek will feature support from ERNEST and Bailey Zimmerman on all dates. HARDY and Parker McCollum will also appear on select dates.
In an effort to give back to those in need, Wallen will donate $3 of every ticket sold on the U.S. dates to the More Than My Hometown Foundation. Established in 2021, the foundation benefits causes near and dear to the superstar’s heart, including organizations such as Greater Good Music, Children Are People, the Salvation Army, and the National Museum of African American Music.
