Morgan Wallen continues to make history with his third studio album, One Thing At A Time. The project notched its 11th consecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts, an achievement only earned by a few other artists, including Stevie Wonder and Whitney Houston.
The East Tennessee native’s new album has been sitting atop the Billboard 200 chart since its debut on March 3.
Houston’s 1987 album, Whitney, featuring her iconic hit “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me),” is the last album to spend 11 consecutive weeks atop the Billboard 200 chart. Before Whitney, Stevie Wonder’s eighteenth studio album, Songs In The Key Of Life, featuring his hit song “Isn’t She Lovely,” logged its first consecutive 13 weeks at No. 1 in 1976 to 1977.
“These stats are all so humbling and being mentioned in the same sentence as Stevie Wonder and Whitney Houston is something I never could have imagined,” Wallen reflects. “But I’m most grateful to everyone who listens to my music. That’s the connection that means the most to me and it’s the best compliment out there – the fact that you guys like it.”
Wallen’s One Thing At A Time has already earned three No. 1 hits to-date. The first chart-topper being “You Proof,” which spent 10 weeks at No. 1, making for the longest running No. 1 in Country radio history. The second No. 1 being “Thought You Should Know,” a tune that remained at the top of the Country Airplay charts for three consecutive weeks.
While his latest No. 1 from the project, “Last Night,” became the fastest-climbing No. 1 on the Billboard Country Airplay charts since 2015 at just 11 weeks, has spent six non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and now claims the longest Hot 100 reign – surpassing Kenny Rogers’ “Lady” and Johnny Horton’s “The Battle of New Orleans” which spent six weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 in 1980 and 1959, respectively.
Meanwhile, Morgan Wallen’s record-breaking project, Dangerous: The Double Album, notches its 120th non-consecutive week in the Billboard 200 Top 10, second only to the 173 weeks held by the Original Cast Recording, My Fair Lady, back in 1956.
The success of his 5x Platinum sophomore project, Dangerous: The Double Album, has gone on to surpass records previously held by Adele and Bruce Springsteen, clocking in at 120 non-consecutive weeks and counting in the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 charts.
The news comes after Wallen was forced to cancel six weeks worth of concerts due to a vocal cord injury.
On Tuesday (May 9), the country superstar took to social media to share the unfortunate news with fans via an emotional video message. In the clip, Wallen revealed that he has been placed on strict vocal rest.
“What’s going on y’all, I’m just going to get straight to it. I got some bad news from my Doctor’s at the Vanderbilt Voice Center yesterday. After taking ten days of vocal rest, I performed three shows last weekend in Florida and by the third one I felt terrible,” he explained. “So, I went in and got scoped yesterday and they told me I injured my vocal cords and that I have vocal fold trauma. Their advice is that I go on vocal rest for six weeks. So that’s what I’m going to do. They want me to not talk at all, but they said it’s okay if I need to for something like this.”
