Sara Evans was revealed as the Mustang on The Masked Singer during the Season 9 premiere on Wednesday evening (Feb. 15).
The chart-topping country star took to the stage to sing “Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake.

Evans left the judges puzzled by her performance. Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, and Robin Thicke were way off with their guesses (Joan Jett, P!nk and Suzanne Somers respectively), while Nicole Scherzinger’s guess at least landed within the same genre with her guess of Wynonna Judd.
The “Suds In The Bucket” singer later took part in Season 9’s first Battle Royale performance where she was pitted against Medusa to perform “Diamonds” by Rihanna. Medusa took home the win in that round and advanced to the next week in the competition.

Later in the show, Nick Cannon unveiled Evans as the person behind the Mustang costume.
“I love the show and I don’t think there’s ever enough country artists represented,” Evans shared after she was unmasked.
The judges went on to praise her vocals.
“Sara, your voice is absolutely beautiful,” Jenny McCarthy exclaimed, as Robin Thicke added, “gorgeous.”
Later, Evans revealed that she kept her involvement in the show completely under wraps and even went as far as keeping the news from her kids.
“I have three children and we’re going to watch it together,” Evans said.
Following the show, Sara Evans sat down with Entertainment Weekly to discuss her role on The Masked Singer.
“I was instantly a ‘yes,’ because anytime that you have the opportunity to be on television, it’s just great for everybody, great for the career, super fun, and I love doing stuff that’s out of the norm for what I normally do,” she told the publication. “We spend most of the year on tour and doing concerts and then making records and writing, so I was so excited to do something different that would give me a fun boost for the beginning of the year.”

During her chat with EW, Evans revealed that she was originally scheduled to appear on night two for ABBA Night, however, things changed when another contestant had to drop off.
As for her Mustang costume, Evans told Billboard it was the perfect choice as it takes inspiration from her childhood.
“Producers and people sometimes help with those decisions,” Evans explained. ”They came to me with that idea and I loved it. It was great because I grew up on a farm and I grew up on a horse and adore horses. There couldn’t have been anything better.”
Following Evans’ departure from The Masked Singer, she revealed that she will commemorate the 20th anniversary of her debut album, Restless, with a special performance at The Ryman in Nashville on Thursday, August 17, 2023.
During the special event, dubbed Sara Evans Still Restless – The 20 Year Celebration, the chart-topping hitmaker will perform her debut project in its entirety.
“I’ve never performed the full album from start to finish before, so this will be a special treat to sing these songs that I love so much on the Ryman stage, along with many of my other hits,” said Evans. “I love all of my albums and each one has a special place in my heart, but I’ve always said that Restless is my favorite,” noted Evans. “There was magic in the studio when we were making the record that brought life into these songs, some of which I wrote and some that were written by many of the best songwriters in the world.”
Sara Evans Still Restless: The 20 Year Celebration
Restless includes three Top 20 singles: “Backseat of a Greyhound Bus,” “Perfect,” and the smash hit, “Suds In The Bucket.”
Tickets for Sara Evans Still Restless – The 20 Year Celebration go on sale to the general public sale on Friday, Feb. 24 at 10:00 AM CT.
