Scotty McCreery has a lot to celebrate! The country singer recently earned two new RIAA certifications with his sentimental tune, “Five More Minutes” reaching 3X platinum and his George Strait-inspired track, “Damn Strait” becoming his most recent of back-to-back hits to achieve platinum status.
“I’ve always said that ‘Five More Minutes’ is my favorite song I’ve ever written. For it to become my first Triple Platinum single means it has really connected with the fans, and as a songwriter that’s what you hope for,” McCreery shared in a press release announcing his latest feat. “‘Damn Strait’ is one of the most fun songs I get to sing live each night. I’m excited to see the success of both of these songs recognized by the fans and the RIAA.”
The Triple Tigers recording artist co-penned “Five More Minutes” alongside Frank Rogers and Monty Criswell. The track appears on his 2018 album, Seasons Change, and marks his very first No.1 single on both Mediabase/Country Aircheck Country Singles Chart and Billboard Country Airplay Chart.
McCreery also earned one of five BMI Awards for writing One of the Top 50 Country Songs of the Year that inspired two popular Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Network holiday movies with “Five More Minutes” and “Five More Minutes: Moments Like These.”

“I have believed in this song since the day I wrote it with Frank and Monty, and I am thrilled that the fans have believed in it as well,” McCreery shared in a previous statement. “This song was inspired by the passing of my grandfather, and I feel him with me every time I sing it. As I’ve said many times, it is my favorite song I’ve ever written.”
“Damn Strait” serves as the second single from McCreery’s latest album Same Truck. Written by Trent Tomlinson and Jim Collins, the song spent three weeks at the top of both the Mediabase and Billboard chart and took the singer’s career to new heights.
After hearing that the song had sat on top of the charts for three weeks in August of 2022, the new dad took to social media to reflect on the success.
“Can’t tell y’all how unreal it is to say ‘Damn Strait’ has been the #1 song in the USA for 3 weeks!!! This has been the most fun I’ve ever had w/ a song on the radio. Not even close. An ode to the King, and a classic country heartbreak song,” he wrote at the time. “C’mon man! As much fun as it is to sing, it’s even more fun hearing you fans scream it back to me every night! Thank you country radio, thank you to my team, and thank you to the FANS!!! Lets gooo!!!!”
McCreery’s current and fastest-rising single of his career “It Matters to Her,” continues to climb in the top 5 on the Mediabase chart and top 7 on the Billboard chart. Co-written with Rhett Akins and Lee Thomas Miller, this heartfelt track finds him singing about all the little things that hold great significance to his wife, such as buying “her favorite wine on your way home,” or “when you’re there when she just needs a friend.”
His most recent release came as a surprise to fans with the unique twist he unveiled the new digital track of, “Why She Gotta Be Like That.” He joined forces with Colombian singer/songwriter GUSI to record a new version that features a duet with both Spanish and English verses.
The genre-blending song finds McCreery singing, “Tell me why you gotta wear them jeans / Hair down and a white tank top / Tell me why you gotta be so mean / Looking so good, I can’t stop / My hands from touchin’ your body / You know I love it but I got to ask / Tell me why, tell me why / Tell me why she gotta be like that.”
GUSI then takes over and ushers in a bit of Latin flair as he delivers the following verse in Spanish.
