Kelly Clarkson continues to impress with her “Kellyoke” covers on The Kelly Clarkson Show and her latest performance is no exception.
On Wednesday, (Feb. 15) Clarkson shared a spirited cover of the Hank Williams Jr. classic “Family Tradition,” and fans are absolutely loving it.
The superstar had her Texas twang on full display throughout her rendition of the 1979 hit and had fans once again begging her to release a country album.

“Please say you are working on your country album,” wrote one fans, while another shared, “I mean I’m speechless.. like the twist that she puts on songs is amazing but keeps to the original I think other covers sounds good then I hear Kelly & she takes it to another level every time!!!!!”
Joined by her band, Y’all, Clarkson sings, “Country music singers have always been a real close family/ But lately some of my kinfolks have disowned a few others and me/ I guess it’s because I kind of changed my direction/ Lord I guess I went and broke their family tradition…”
“Family Tradition” is one of Hank Williams Jr.’s most popular songs. It was released as the fourth single from his album of the same name in 1979 and went on to climb to No.4 on the country radio charts.
Hank Jr. was the sole co-writer of “Family Tradition” and the original version was produced by Jimmy Bowen.
Clarkson has shared a variety of covers during the “Kellyoke” segment of The Kelly Clarkson Show, including renditions of Blake Shelton‘s “Who Are You When I’m Not Looking,” Billy Currington’s “Let Me Down Easy,” Pam Tillis’ “Maybe It Was Memphis,” Wynonna’s “No One Else On Earth” and Jo Dee Messina’s “Heads Carolina, Tails California.
Other “Kellyoke” segments have also featured covers of Brooks & Dunn, Cody Johnson, Johnny Cash, Lady A, Rascal Flatts, Travis Tritt, Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood and Kelsea Ballerini (just to name a few).
