Megan Moroney made her morning television debut with a performance of her newly certified PLATINUM single, “Tennessee Orange,” on NBC’s TODAY with Hoda & Jenna.
The country star donned a short white dress and matching cowboy boots as she stood in front of the sparkly pink background with her pink guitar in hand. Before jumping into her dazzling performance, Moroney shared a bit of her musical journey with the hosts.
Jenna first acknowledged the unusual path that led Moroney to stardom, explaining that she originally went to college for accounting, but then came across a “struck of luck.”
“I agree. I mean it’s crazy because that’s what I went to school for and then my freshman year, it just kind of fell into place and here I am,” she explained.
When asked if she’s always had a love for singing, Moroney responded, “I did, yeah. I’ve always loved playing music and singing with my family, but I never thought I could it professionally.”
Hoda and Jenna proceeded to share their pride for the young artist and all she’s accomplished so far before promoting her to “take it away.”

The Sony Music Nashville/Columbia Records rising star strummed away as she softly began singing the first lyrics to her fan-favorite single that’s earned a spot in the top 10 on Country radio. The grit of her Georgia roots come to life through her stunning vocals that powerfully depict the modern-age love story with an added personal touch. As a Georgia girl, Moroney was inspired to pen this country waltz after falling for a University of Tennessee boy, which in the eyes of her school, is considered a “sin.”
“I met somebody, and he’s got blue eyes/He opens the door, and he don’t make me cry/He ain’t from where we’re from, but he feels like home/He’s got me doing things I’ve never done/In Georgia they’d call it a sin/I’m wearing Tennessee orange for him,” she sings in the chorus.

This performance of “Tennessee Orange” showcased Moroney’s charming personality and comes on the heels of her just-released debut album, LUCKY. On May 5, the brand-new project starts off strong with a dose of lighthearted fun inspired by a true story in “I’m Not Pretty” before moving into the previously released title track and her clever take on self-reflection in “Girl in the Mirror.”
The remainder of the 13 tracks, displays her ability to find a song in real-life experiences and fill it with her raw yet silky vocals. Produced by Kristian Bush, LUCKY gives an intimate look into all the love, loss, success and low points that Moroney has crossed paths with throughout her mid-twenties.
“All these songs came from me writing about my life; I don’t ever put on a persona or try to be something I’m not,” Moroney explains in a press release. “I’m just a 25-year-old girl from Georgia who happens to be very in touch with her feelings, and knows how to turn them into songs.”
