Kenny Chesney has confirmed that his new album is moving along in the creative process. However, fans will have to wait a bit longer before the collection is finalized to his satisfaction.
While discussing his new music with Audacy’s Katie Neal, Chesney shared, “The one thing I can say about it [new music] is it’s still in motion. People ask me when it’s going to come out and the best answer I have is, ‘When it’s done.’”
He continued, “It’s easy to rush it and it’s easy to put music out when people think it might be time, but I think I’ve earned the right to get it right. I mean, I love it now, but I want to be in love.”

He Plays His New Music To Those He Trusts
Chesney also explained that he isn’t the only one who has a say in determining when the new tracks are ready for listeners. Approval is also required from his work camp and Tennessee family.
“Lucky for me, I don’t have a lot of ‘yes,’ people in my camp,” he told the outlet. “And that’s really important. I have a lot of people within my circle, within my camp that have really good song sense. It all starts with my producer Buddy Cannon also, I can’t get anything past him. I’ve been blessed that way.”
“Honestly, my family in East Tennessee, they are our audience, they really are,” he added. “When I’m home for Christmas or Thanksgiving, they’ll tell me everybody they love, they’ll tell me what they hate. All the new artists, all the songs they love.”

The ‘Next Record Is Important’
In March the “Happy Does” singer also caught up with Country Countdown USA’s Lon Helton during this year’s Country Radio Seminar. In the midst of their conversation, he disclosed his goals for the album and revealed that it is “nearly halfway finished.”
“The next record is important — they are all important. No matter who you are or where you’re at in your career arc, every album is important,” Chesney said during the interview panel. “You want somebody to do something, you want somebody to be happy, you want somebody to chase their own dreams because of your music.”
Chesney also reflected on how his love for sports has provided him with a competitive mentality that translates into his career.
“The one thing that I think that’s helped me … sustain any kind of success is the idea that you either get better or you get worse,” Chesney said, referring to the advice that stuck with him from big-wave surfer Laird Hamilton. “[Laird] said, ‘You get 1% better or worse every day…’ I’ve tried to get 1% better as a writer, a person, a producer. That’s the mentality I’ve had over the years,” he added.
This forthcoming project will follow the singer/songwriter’s 2020 Here And Now record. This collection offers a slew of his signature tunes including “Everyone She Knows,” “Happy Does,” “We Do,” and the title track.
On Tour Now
While fans await Kenny Chesney’s next new music drop, they have the chance to see him live on his current I Go Back Tour.
This trek launched March 23 in Charlottesville, Virginia and continues with stops in Moline, IL, Grand Forks, ND, Lincoln, NE, Evansville, IN and more before wrapping up on May 27 in Orange Beach, AL. Kelsea Ballerini is serving as support on this run.
The tour is named after Chesney’s fan-favorite track, “I Go Back,” which is featured on his 2004 record, When The Sun Goes Down.
Presented by Blue Chair Bay Rum, the I Go Back Tour finds Chesney returning to his roots as he visits arenas and cities that he played on his rise to superstardom.
